Datalux Recovery and Maintenance CD V1.60 =========================================== The Recovery and Maintenance CD contains the files and utilities necessary to recover a Datalux Tracer, IPIX or Databrick III unit. Recovery and Maintenance operations available include the following: A. Create BIOS Upgrade Boot Floppy B. Create MS-Client Network Boot Floppy C. Re-install Windows on the Hard Drive (Boot from this CD) D. Re-image the Hard Drive (Requires Image CD) E. Install utility programs When booting from the CD-ROM, please note the following: -- The Teac CD-ROM drive must be plugged into the unit, not a hub. -- You will need a PS/2 keyboard when using the Teac CD-ROM in DOS. The Teac CD-ROM software will not install if any other USB devices are attached. ** THE DATALUX Recovery and Maintenance CD CONTAINS LICENSED SOFTWARE ** ** ** ** This is a companion disk to the Operating System disk you received ** ** with your unit and is bound by the same license terms. Please refer ** ** to your Microsoft End User License Agreement (EULA) for details. ** ** ** ** DO NOT MAKE ILLEGAL COPIES OF THIS DISK ** =============== A. BIOS Upgrade =============== The "BIOS Upgrade" utility program will create a bootable floppy that will automatically upgrade your BIOS. NOTE: BIOS Version 1.40 or higher is required to boot from a USB CD-ROM drive. To create a BIOS upgrade floppy, please do the following: 1. Insert this CD into a system running Windows. 2. Double click on the "My Computer" icon and select the CD-ROM icon. 3. Double Click on the "FDD-BIOS Upgrade" icon. 4. Insert a blank floppy into drive "A:" when prompted. 5. Turn the unit on. 9. Press 'Y' to confirm upgrading the BIOS. DO NOT REMOVE POWER - this may corrupt your BIOS and prevent the system from booting; if this occurs, the unit will have to be returned to the factory. The BIOS upgrade program will run and display a progress chart. 1O. When prompted, remove the Floppy and turn power to the unit off. ==================== B. MS-Client Network ==================== NOTE: BIOS Version 1.50 or higher is required to boot and run MS-Client or most other DOS networks. The "MS-Client Boot" utility program will create a bootable floppy that MAY allow your unit to boot to your network. Large variations in network configurations may require additional files or settings not included herein. A more generic boot disk that is Datalux Tracer / IPIX specific that seems to work with many types of networks can be found here: \extras\MSCLIENT\MODBOOT For other versions, get the latest image from here: http://www.nu2.nu To create a MS-Client upgrade floppy, please do the following: 1. Insert this CD into a system running Windows. 2. Double click on the "My Computer" icon and select the CD-ROM icon. 3. Double Click on the "FDD MS-Client" icon. 4. Insert a blank floppy into drive "A:" when prompted. 5. Press Return to create a bootable floppy containing the MS-Client files. 6. Edit the "a:\net\system.ini" file for your user name, domain name and workgroup. If you are using more than one boot disk on the same network you must also change the computer name to a unique name. Example: username=MYNAME domainname=MYCOMPANY workgroup=MYGROUP computername=NAME001 Contact your network administrator if you are unsure of your network settings. 7. Shutdown the Tracer, IPIX or Databrick III computer. 8. Insert the floppy in a USB Floppy Drive plugged into this unit. 9. Turn the unit on. When the system boots, the network drivers and MS-Client drivers for TCP/IP and DHCP will be loaded; a help message will be displayed. To get help on all network commands: Q:\>net help To view your configuration: Q:\>ipconfig Q:\>net config To login: Q:\>net logon To view other computers on the network: Q:\>net view Again, there are a large number of variables that may prevent this disk from working on your network. ========================================== C.
