Datalux PowerPack
The PowerPack from Datalux is a battery powered power solution for mobile carts with computer systems. The PowerPack provides a stream of DC power designed to power mobile computer systems.
All computer systems are designed to utilize DC current on the inside, and typically use an AC adapter to convert the 120V/240V AC power from a wall outlet into a form that can be used by the computer. Some computers are designed with an internal adapter, requiring that AC power be supplied to the computer. This requires that cart manufacturers provide battery-powered AC outlets onboard.
There are both advantages and disadvantages to this approach. The advantage is that other equipment can sometimes be powered by the same power supply (this can also be a disadvantage in that it depletes the battery more quickly). The primary disadvantage is that in order to provide AC power on a cart requires that there be 4 separate conversions (AC to DC to charge the battery, then DC to AC on the cart, then AC back to DC to power the computer. The conversions require heavy transformers and each conversion introduces inefficiency.
The Datalux IPIX is designed to use a DC power supply making it a simple process to charge a battery pack and then deliver the DC current to the all-in-one PC.

The PowerPack is designed to power the IPIX (or other computers such as laptops that normally require 12-18VDC power input). The PowerPack was designed specifically for use in a hospital environment and uses medical grade components, an EN-60601-1 approved charger, and a field-replaceable and maintenance-free sealed Lead-acid battery (12V/20 amp hour). |
DC output on the PowerPack is internally selectable, from 12 to 19.5VDC (set at the factory to the default 15VDC). The PowerPack can provide up to 50 watts of continuous power. Run time depends upon the device powered by the PowerPack. The dual mode charger provides bulk charge and float charge states as needed.

A series of four LEDS indicates the charging state (green=charge) or discharge state (amber=discharge) and an audible low battery warning indicator can be enabled or disabled as desired. The PowerPack by Datalux can be mounted onto most carts or adapted for use on other medical equipment. Customized mounting solutions can be developed for OEM customers. |
